Advocacy

A key objective of the Society is to advocate for the interests of its Members, the legal profession, and the broader community. Through strong and effective advocacy, the Society aims to ensure that legal frameworks remain fair and responsive. This commitment has established the Society as a trusted authority on law reform and legal matters.

The Society influences policy, legislation, and practice-related issues by submitting feedback to the Government, Parliament, the judiciary, the Law Council of Australia, and other relevant bodies. Regularly consulted on legal issues, the Society also initiates commentary on significant topics. Its advocacy efforts are guided by 21 Special Interest Committees and 7 Select Committees, which provide in-depth analysis and expert advice.

Additionally, the Society contributes to public discourse on important legal topics by collaborating with the media and addressing community issues. It communicates through mainstream media, specialised publications, and its own digital channels to educate the public about crucial legal matters and advocate on behalf of the legal profession and the rule of law with clear, thoughtful, and well-reasoned commentary.
